North Carolina's Workers' Compensation System Seminar

The original intent of the workers' compensation system was that employers would cover medical care and lost wages for injured workers, and injured workers who were able would return to work upon recovery - there was no question of fault or claims of negligence. This balanced approach was called the “compensation bargain,” and was an efficient, effective system that did not necessitate attorneys or other outside parties, but rather worked simply between employers and employees.

This symposium seeks to examine the state of the current workers’ compensation system in North Carolina, to see if it is today the “compensation bargain” it was intended to be.

The seminar will be held August 1-2, 2010 in Winston-Salem, NC at the Embassy Suites Hotel. The cost is $129 before July 10, and $149 after. Register online today!

5th Annual Educational Charity Golf Outing

The annual Educational Charity Golf Outing for the Carolinas Chapter of RIMS will be May 12^th. Last year, the Chapter gave $6,000 each to Appalachian and UNC Charlotte as well as $15,000 to the Spencer Educational Foundation with the proceeds of this golf tournament.

The purpose of the Annual Educational Charity Golf Outing is to raise funds for educational opportunities for Risk Management students. For this reason, we are filling sponsorship levels that include golf first (silver and above) and any remaining spots on a wait-list basis. If you would like to be added to the wait-list, please contact Jenny Jones. Individual registrations will be accepted for single players.

Please join us on April 15, 2010 for the final luncheon of the 2009-2010 RIMS Season. The Chapter welcomes Barbara Ruark for the annual legislative update. Ms. Ruark has been partner with Orbock Ruark & Dillard since its creation in 1995 and practices exclusively in the area of Workers’ Compensation defense. She will be presenting legislative and case law movements over the past 12 months.

Summer Internships through Carolinas Chapter of RIMS

In an effort to offer greater benefits to our member companies, the Carolinas Chapter is offering two paid internships of $3000 each for the summer of 2010.

The application deadline for the member company to complete and submit is Friday, March 12, 2010. A decision on the two companies chosen to receive funding will be made no later than Friday, April 2, 2010.
