Contractual Risk Transfer / November Luncheon

 Join RIMS for an interactive panel discussion of various issues risk managers should consider when dealing with contractual risk transfer.  The panel consists of a risk manager, attorney and insurance broker – as each brings a point of view that contributes to the way risk managers handle their contractual risk transfer.  Audience participation is encouraged as we discuss coverage requirements, additional insured endorsements, contractors/subcontractors, technology contract issues and possible solutions, and more!

Tiffany Allen has worked in the risk and insurance field for twenty-four years.  She credits a lot of her understanding of insurance from working as an underwriter at Hanover Excess and Surplus and from the thirteen years she spent at New Hanover County, where she served as the Risk Management Specialist and then Risk Manager.  In August of 2013, she accepted a position with Union County as their Risk Manager and yes – she is happy that she made the move from the beach to Monroe!  Tiffany is the President of the North Carolina Public Risk Management Association and serves on the (national) Public Risk Management Association’s External Affairs Committee.  Ms. Allen served as President of the North Carolina Association of Insurance Women in 2006-07. Her favorite volunteer job is serving as chairman of the NC PRIMA Golf Tournament, which funds scholarships to students in risk and insurance programs of study at three North Carolina universities.  Ms. Allen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, holds the ARM-P designation and is currently working towards the CPCU designation.        

George H. Pender graduated summa cum laude from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, having majored in insurance and Real estate.  He received a Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University School of Law.  Prior to attending law school, George spent a year working for an independent property/casualty insurance agency, three years with the Group Health Department of the Travelers Insurance Company, and seven years as a stockbroker/certified financial planner for E.F. Hutton.  He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for ten years, and served his last three years as a Captain.  George’s primary practice areas are complex insurance and bad faith issues, defense of insurance agents, brokers and dealers, products and general liability cases, and workers’ compensation.  George is admitted to practice in all courts of the State of North Carolina, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina.  In 2008, he was names by the Triangle Business Leader as one of the Top Lawyers in Trial/Litigation and in 2013 and 2014 he was listed in Best Lawyers in America for Workers’ Compensation-Employers.  He has also earned the highest (AV-Rated) ranking awarded by Martindale-Hubbell.

Keith Richards started his insurance career adjusting workers’ compensation claims in Ft. Lauderdale.  He has adjusted all lines of claims and supervised a claims team.  Keith then moved into a producer’s role for Liberty Mutual Insurance for six years before becoming the Risk Manager for Union County Government for the next seven years.  As of July 2013 Keith works as an account executive for Wells Fargo Insurance Services in Charlotte. Over the years he has received the CPCU, ARM-P, and AIC designations through the Insurance Institute of America.

We are pleased to have John T. Holden from Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote as our guest speaker for our Carolinas RIMS luncheon on Thursday, October 17. John's presentation will be titled "Dealing with the Dark Side: The Law's Reaction to Data Breach" and will discuss the current legal status of data breach incidents, government, or administrative penalties, and liability to third parties. John will also be discussing the outcomes of litigation in the data breach area and will cover what your company can do to do comply with regulations to minimize financial exposure. John Holden is a shareholder of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. He concentrates his practice in the areas of professional malpractice, medical malpractice, transportation litigation, insurance defense, premises liability, product liability law, and toxic tort law, with a particular emphasis in civil trial work.

As we kick off the 2013-2014 Carolinas RIMS season, we'd like to invite you to our first event on Thursday, September 19 at 7:30am. We will be having a breakfast at the Renaissance Hotel in Charlotte and we'll be joined by Sarah Watt, an Economist with Wells Fargo Securities. Sarah will speak on the current economic landscape of the country. Sarah covers the US macro economy, including the labor market, manufacturing sector, and inflation trends. She regularly writes indicator reports, produces special commentary, and contributes to the company's Weekly Economic and Financial CommentaryPrior to joining Wells Fargo in 2010, Sarah worked as a research associate for the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Sarah earned a B.A. in economics from Tulane University in New Orleans and MSc in local economic development from the London School of Economics. She is a member of the National Association of Business Economics and Charlotte Economics Club.

2013 Southeastern RIMS Educational Conference

Registration is currently open for the 2013 Southeastern RIMS Educational Conference, hosted by the Palmetto RIMS chapter. The conference will be held September 11-13, 2013 at the Francis Marion Hotel in beautiful and historic Charleston, SC. Conference highlights include a Harbor Tour boat cruise on Wednesday afternoon, a keynote presentation by Charleston historian Dr. Nic Butler, and a post-dinner reception at the South Carolina Aquarium on Thursday night.
