Student Shadow Day

Carolinas RIMS is pleased to be hosting Student Shadow Day 2014 on Friday March 21. We need corporate sponsors to host one or two risk management students from either Appalachian State or UNCC for the day.  Shadow day gives all of us the opportunity to mentor future risk management and insurance professionals and provide the students a glimpse at the opportunities our profession has to offer. It is an invaluable experience for the students and one that RIMS enjoys hosting, but we could not do it without your help.

Liability Legal Education Seminar

There's an upcoming free seminar for licensed North Carolina adjusters hosted by Vernis & Bowling on Liability Legal Education on March 13, 2014. The seminar will be held at Bank of America Stadium (Panthers Den) - 800 South Mint Street, Charlotte, NC. Breakfast and lunch will be complimentary. The time of the seminar is from 7:30am-4:00pm.

Educational and Happy Hour Invitation

We wanted to make you aware of an upcoming educational and happy hour event designed specifically for risk and litigation managers and adjusters in the greater Charlotte area. Join us on Wednesday, March 12 at 3:30pm at Maggiano's in SouthPark. There are two concurrent sessions - "Legislative Changes in Tennessee Workers' Compensation Law" and "Fifteen Minute Drill: An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure - a fast and furious multi-topic discussion impacting liability litigation and cost saving techniques". The sessions will be from 3:30-5:00pm, followed by happy hour from 5:00-6:30pm.

RIMS Vendor Appreciation Lunch

For those who have received an invitation, please joins us on Thursday, February 20 at Bonterra Dining & Wine Room (1829 Cleveland Ave, Charlotte, NC) for our RIMS Vendor Appreciation Lunch. Registration begins at 11:30am and lunch is served at 12:00pm.

Our featured speaker is Jeff Alt.  He is an accomplished adventurer, acclaimed speaker, and award-winning author.  Jeff entertains and inspires audiences with a dynamic multimedia presentation combining humor and adventure, relating his 2,160 mile Appalachian Trail expedition, his 218-mile John Muir Trail expedition with his wife, and his family trek across  Ireland, to organizational themes such as goal setting, surviving with the bare essentials, perseverance, overcoming obstacles, and making a difference. 

Carolinas RIMS Chapter Supports AppState RMI

The Board of Directors for Carolinas RIMS presented a $10,000 check to students from the Appalachian State University Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) program at their December 2013 Holiday Social in Charlotte. Present to accept the check from Appalachian State were Dr. Karen Epermanis, Greg Langdon, along with Gamma Iota Sigma Rho President Alyssa Bouchard and VP of Public Relations Wes McDaniel. RIMS Chapter President Karen Mouton presented the ceremonial check to the students at the Holiday Social.

Carolinas RIMS annually sponsors a Shadow Day where RMI majors from Appalachian State spend the day learning from industry professionals. They also provide scholarship assistance to AppState RMI students, and sponsor students to participate in the Southeastern Regional Educational Conference.

January Luncheon

Please join the Carolinas RIMS chapter for "The Power of Questions in Negotiations", a discussion of the use and value of questions in negotiations. This session is presented by Mac McCarley, a partner in the Government and Public Policy Practice of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein. Mac graduated from UNC undergrad and law. He served as City Attorney in Greenville, NC for 13 years before serving as Charlotte City Attorney for 17 years.

Our luncheon will be on Thursday, January 16 starting at 11:30am at the Renaissance Hotel in Charlotte (2800 Coliseum Centre Dr.). Please note that the cost for the luncheon is now $30 for RIMS members and $35 for non-members. We hope to see everyone there!
