November Luncheon - Obesity and Diabetes: Two Co-morbidities in Rising Orthopedic Costs

Join us on Tuesday, November 17 at Piedmont Natural Gas (4720 Piedmont Row Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina) at 11:30am as we discuss Obesity and Diabetes: Two co-morbidities in Rising Orthopedic Costs. This topic will showcase the basics of obesity and diabetes and how they separately and cohesively increase the costs of orthopedic diagnoses. Risk factors, medications, therapies will be discussed in order to understand all the costs associated with the rehabilitation plan. Two case scenarios will be presented on a surgical patient. One will focus on a 'normal' rehab scenario and one will focus on a rehab plan that includes diabetes and obesity conditions.

Presenting this topic will be Janet Gordon, Case Management Supervisor at Corvel. Janet has 28 years of nursing experience including 8 years of telephonic case management in the Manged Care coordinating care for catastrophic, transplant, maternity, and rehab patients. She has spent 11 years in workers compensation. Janet was responsible for coordinating care for patients in NC, SC, GA, and Florida. She has 6 years' experience in the home healthcare industry as an IV infusion nurse. She has extensive knowledge in medical cost containment and negotiation. She has been with Corvel for over 10 years and a Case Management Supervisor since 2009. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1981. She became a Certified Case Manager in 2001.
